Dr. Jesse Arbaugh

Dr. Arbaugh says that he loves practicing dentistry so much that he doesn’t even consider it a job. Every day, he gets to wake up and help others. For him, this is just a fun and fulfilling way to spend his days that allows him to get to know people while also making a big difference in their lives. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Arbaugh grew up in Texas, and when he was in the 7th grade, his dad got him a summer job doing manual labor. After the first day, he said that he wanted to get a good education so he could have an “inside job” when he grew up. While this was an important lesson, his dad also wanted him to learn the value of following through on his commitments, so Dr. Arbaugh stayed at that job for the entire summer.

On the last day, he laid 17 pallets of sod for his family dentist, Dr. Bob. Dr. Bob came out to check on the progress of his dental office’s landscaping and started talking to Dr. Arbaugh, learning he was about to finish for the season. Dr. Bob asked him if he was interested in learning about dentistry, and when he said yes, Dr. Arbaugh was offered a job at his dental office. Dr. Arbaugh went on to work there for about six years, and this is where his dental career started.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

After attending high school in Waco, Dr. Arbaugh graduated summa cum laude from Southwest Texas State in San Marcos. While in college, he was a member of the Polymer Research Group, which developed new plastic coatings for NASA, Central Glass, and Estee Lauder. Dr. Arbaugh also continued his passion for research by accepting a summer internship at the MD Anderson Cancer Research Center. He has been fortunate enough to have his work published and has given several presentations on his research.

While working on his master's degree in chemistry, Dr. Arbaugh was accepted into the Baylor College of Dentistry. At Baylor, Dr. Arbaugh was on the Dean’s List every semester and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the honor dental fraternity made up of the top 10% of graduating seniors. He was the only student in his class to receive a scholarship to the Pierre Fauchard Academy (an international honor dental organization). After obtaining his dental degree, Dr. Arbaugh completed twenty months of additional training in the Graduate Endodontic Program at Baylor.

Always eager to learn more and improve, he has taken over 500 hours of continuing education and is currently a member of the American Dental Association and Texas Dental Association.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Arbaugh and his wife, Natalie, have been married for almost 20 years, and they have one daughter. Most of his free time is taken up by doing charity work for organizations like Hope Farms and the Saint Hope Foundation. He is also a big college football fan (particularly for the Florida Gators) and tries to visit the new stadium every year. To stay active, he enjoys running, and he even got to spend the day with Edwin Moses a few years ago where he taught Dr. Arbaugh how to hurdle.
